Quinoa (pronounced ‘Keen-Wah’) has been grown in South America for thousands of years. During the age of the Inca Empire it was an important crop and believed to be sacred, referred to as ‘the mother of all grains’. Just like fine wine, some regions produce better tasting grapes than others and quinoa grown in Bolivia is Royal Quinoa, the highest quality of quinoa in the world. Bolivia has harsh weather conditions and intense seasonality, making this crop incredibly durable.  The result, a truly larger, rounder seed, that tastes nuttier and fluffier (once cooked) than any other quinoa variety. Quinoa is often referred to as a pseudo-cereal as it is basically a seed, which is prepared and eaten in a similar manner to a grain. It is very high in fiber and protein; in fact it contains all the essential amino acids we require, making it an excellent plant source of protein. Quinoa is certified organic by the Soil Association under the code GB-ORG-05
