Coconut flour is a natural alternative to other types of flour, rich in dietary fibre and protein. In fact, it has the highest content of dietary fibre compared to any other type of flours in its protein content.
The general uses would include cooking, baking (pancakes, cookies, bread, etc.), thickening sauces, gravies, and it can even be added to smoothies. Several tablespoons per day would make a significant difference in the daily fibre intake.
Due to the fact that coconut flour doesn’t contain gluten, it cannot be used as a 1:1 substitute for regular flour. It will require more liquid to be added to achieve the right texture in cooking. Coconut flour is ideal for people who are sensitive to wheat and are allergic to gluten, as it does not contain this specific protein.
